An award winning country house based just by the village green in the peaceful borders village of Skirling.  Graded by the Scottish Tourism board as 5 star and a finalist in the Scottish Tourist  Board's Thisle Award, Skirling House will not disappoint during your short break. Skirling House also boasts several awards which the owners proudly display. The ornate carvings and wrought ironwork add individuality and distinction to this friendly house.  The house was designed by the Arts and Crafts architect Ramsay Traquair in 1908.

This is a luxury retreat ensuring guests of high levels of comfort with spacious rooms, comfortable sofas, armchairs, books, antiques and log fires.

Outstanding food at Skirling House

Wherever possible Skirling House use locally sourced produce, such as honey, jams and marmalade and even bake their own bread on the premises. Freshness, quality and imagination are the three ingredients in every dish and it's this no-compromise approach that has won Bob and his team many accolades for their cooking.

Freshly prepared breakfasts are provided and are made to suit all tastes and dietary requirements.

Afternoon tea is served between 2pm and 4pm either in the conservatory, drawing room or if you wish in your room.

The dinner menu changes daily and the owners take into account guest's likes and dislikes so all guests can enjoy a delicious meal in the comfortable surroundings of Skirling House.

During your stay at Skirling House you can explore some of the great attractions in Biggar and the surrounding Lanarkshire area and have many great days out during your short break Biggar lies close to Lanark which also has lots to explore, especially the nearby World Heritage Site of New Lanark with its award-winning visitor centre and attractions to keep the whole family amused.

Biggar also hosts its own festival, the Biggar Little Festival, which  is held every October. The annual arts festival celebrates dance, arts and crafts, drama and literature.

Skirling House is also the ideal place to stay to explore the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, both within easy reach. .
