Beautiful surroundings at the Popinjay

Situated in 8 acres in the heart of the scenic Clyde Valley, the picturesque Popinjay Hotel takes its name from a mystical bird connected to traditional May Day celebrations and that is also described in Sir Walter Scott's famous book 'Old Mortality'

Built in 1882 in Tudor design, The Popinjay is on the A72 Hamilton - Lanark road, only 4 miles off the M74 and twenty minutes from Glasgow and forty from Edinburgh by car.

Perfectly suited for both business and leisure stays, the hotel sits in private grounds with beautiful picturesque gardens that reach down to the banks of the famous River Clyde, where the Popinjay enjoys fishing rights. The hotel is an ideal location from which to visit the many attractions of Central & Southwest Scotland, and the fishing, golf and other outdoor facilities available nearby.

The 34 bedrooms are a combination of single, double, twin and family rooms and are complete with private facilties, colour TV, radio, direct dial telephone, toiletries, trouserpress, hair dryer, and tea/coffee making facilities.

The newly refurbished Rosebank Suite offers extensive facilities for business meetings, conferences, weddings and all social occasions.

Dining at the Popinjay

Dining at the Popinjay Hotel will not disappoint with fantastic food served all day. Choose from a light lunch in the Perch Bar & Bistro, a tasty snack from the bar menu or a more luxurious formal dinner in the Dalserf restuarant.

The darkly luxurious Dalserf restaurant is the place for whispered conversations around magnificent food, rare wines, and sensational personal service, tailored always to your every need. With cuisine by the renowned head chef, Alexander Thain, you will be stimulated by the classic Scottish and French influenced menu, always prepared with the finest, fresh, locally sourced produce, creatively presented.

The Popinjay provides a wide range of facilities including a comprehensive spa with health & fitness club, indoor pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, gym, beauty salon and hairdresser. It also has ample car parking, fax, internet access, daily newspapers and night porter.

During your stay at the Popinjay Hotel, why not visit some of the great nearby attractions including the award-winning New Lanark World Heritage Site or Chatelherault Country Park- both are great days out for the whole family.
