Enjoy a great day out at Whitelee Wind Farm.
Whitelee Visitor Centre
At the Visitor Centre you'll find an exhibition room, a learning hub, a café with a viewing deck and also a shop.
The exhibition room has fantastic hands-on interactive activities. If you were building a windfarm would you know the best place for the turbines to go? Would you know how many blades to give them? Would you be able to balance the country’s energy supply to meet electricity demands? Investigate this and much more in the exhibition room.
The learning hub is where educator led sessions are held. Here, schools and colleges are invited to take place in our ‘Wind Works!’ workshop to learn more about renewable energy. For more information on the sessions available please click here.
The café serves a selection of hot and cold food, teas and coffees and children’s meals. The café has large glass windows and an external viewing deck that provides stunning views of the windfarm.
The shop has souvenirs and gifts to suit every budget ranging from stationery items to children’s toys.
Walking and Cycling at Whitelee Wind Farm
Whitelee offers a unique and varied setting for many recreational activities and outdoor pursuits including walking, cycling and horse riding.
Situated in the centre on Eaglesham moor, Whitelee is the largest onshore windfarm in Europe and with over 90kms of trails there's lots to explore. Across the wider area, forest roads and trails provide increased access and future developments will see these trails upgraded and improved.
Car Parking at Whitelee Wind Farm
Car parking facilities are located at the Visitor Centre and we recommend that you access the windfarm from this point. Forthcoming development of the windfarm and wider area will also include additional car parking and signage. It should be noted that the unauthorised use of motorised vehicles, including quad bikes and motorbikes, is not permitted on windfarm or forest roads and recreational paths.
Following your visit, why not do some shopping at the East Kilbride Shopping Centre, located just a few miles away. Alternatively why not pay a visit to the VisitScotland 5 star rated National Museum of Rural Life or the ever popular Calderglen Country Park.
