Learn about the History of Douglas, South Lanarkshire
Located in one of the oldest buildings in Douglas, the Douglas Heritage Museum has hosted many significant moments during its long history. The museum was originally a church and was visited from Mary Queen of Scots in 1565, and in 1978 the church visitor book was signed by HRH Prince Charles.
In 1993 the Douglas Heritage Society was generously granted a long term lease of the building by the Douglas Home family which saw the transformation of the building into the Douglas Heritage Museum.
Today the museum aims to present the towns historical roots through a range of exhibitions such as the story of Black Douglas and his adventures with Robert the Bruce, James Gavin and the Covenanters and the town’s football, mining and weaving past.
