Opened in 1994, Carmichael Visitor Centre, Farm Shop & Tearoom features the former Edinburgh Wax Model Collection depicting Scotland's millennium from Queen Margaret and Macbeth through to the present day. Today the centre is a thriving hub for the Carmichael Estate including the reception desk for the Estate’s Carmichael Country Cottage,s business and a well stocked farm shop and tearoom. The tearoom is open Thursday to Monday and is the closest licensed premise to Tinto Hill – You will always be greeted with a smile and delicious home made food in a relaxed environment.
In the museum Scotland’s is story told through very realistic ‘living’ wax models coupled with the Carmichael family history of the thousand year period that the family has been in Clydesdale. Stewardship of one landed unit for a millennium is demonstrated and the workings of the integrated agricultural, forestry and tourism Estate of today explained. Today the Estate consists of coppice willow, cattle, sheep, red deer, arable crops, sustainably managed woodland and self catering holidays lets.
As well as featuring Scotland’s only wax model collection there is an exciting adventure playground and a range of farm animals from ducks to deer to enjoy.
Walking and Cycling to and from Carmichael Visitor Centre
The Carmichael history walk is becoming increasingly popular starting at the visitor centre. Touring cyclists, bikers and well behaved dogs on leads are welcome! Our fully licensed Farmhouse Kitchen Tearoom provides a range of delicious meals, snacks and home backing featuring Carmichael Farm produce - particularly venison, beef and lamb. The Tearoom is open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5pm and you will receive a warm welcome and can enjoy our delicious Coffee.
The Carmichael Estate Farm Shop (Open 7 Days 10am to 5pm) offers a range of fresh and frozen farm produce including venison, beef and lamb straight from the farm at Carmichael. There is also good range of Ramsay of Carluke pork products, smoked and fresh fish, local cheeses (including Lanark Blue) and Hugh Grierson delicious Organic Chicken. The shop also acts as the reception desk for the 16 self catering holiday cottages on the Estate and sells a range of countryside gifts and other souvenirs including Clan Carmichael tartan and crested goods.
