Specially aimed at the 50+ age group, Young at Heart is a unique festival that aims to celebrate the arts as accessible and engaging for all and has grown from strength to strength over the past years. After the overwhelming success of the past four years, we are delighted to build on this success with a variety of events throughout South Lanarkshire during this week.
This year sees the return of many of our popular events such as the Free recitals at 2pm, Craft Fair, Exhibitions, Film Screening, Author Visits and Tea Dances as well as a range of new courses and workshops including the chance to have a go at printmaking or ceramics.
As always there is a range of performances kicking off with the fabulous Quattro MacJazz featuring Alastair McDonald at Rutherglen Town Hall on Monday 22 March which will take many back to memories of the great trad jazz scene of the 60s. New for this year is our finale event on Sunday 28th March- Arts in the Park. This promises to be a fabulous end to the week when grandparents or older relatives are encouraged to bring the family for a day out to Calderglen Country Park where there will be a range of activities for all the family. Look out also for the Travelling Gallery- a mobile exhibition which will be visiting a different location each day.
This year we have teamed up with our colleagues at Seniors Together in South Lanarkshire (formerly known as Better Government for Older People) to help promote the festival to a wider audience locally.
If you are interested in the arts then this festival is for you, and we are confident that you’ll find something in this unique programme which appeals!
Places are limited for most events so advance booking is advisable! Copies of the Free Young at Heart Brochure giving full listing of all events are available at Libraries and venues throughout South Lanarkshire or can be mailed out by calling Hamilton Town House on 01698 452299.
