Children will go wild for the fantastic rides at M&Ds, Scotland's largest theme park located at Strathclyde Country Park. With over 40 major rides and attractions including five rollercoasters and an amazing indoor rainforest; you'll be spoilt for choice for activities for the whole family.
If it is a countryside experience you're after, a trip to the 5 star National Museum of Rural Life at Kittochside, near East Kilbride, will give you a real insight into 300 years of the life of Scotland's farming communities. With farm animals, including Clydesdale horses, Tamworth pigs, sheep and Highland cattle, and fantastic tractor and trailer rides, kids will be captivated for hours.
When at the ICG a visit to Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life is a must. Following a multi-million redevelopment the former site of the Victorian Summerlee Iron Works has quickly re-estabished its reputation as one of Lanarkshire's leading, and noisiest visitor attractions.
As well as the chance to explore the new exhibition hall, which showcases interactive exhibits and working machinery, guides will be on hand to take groups down the re-created mine. You can also see how housing conditions have changed since the 19th century and even enjoy a ride on one of Summerlee's restored vintage trams.
New Lanark World Heritage Site is a fantastic place to continue the industrial experience, by exploring the fully restored 18th century cotton mill village and learning about Robert Owen's vision for a better future for Scotland.
For those interested in architecture and design, Hamilton Palace Mausoleum is a remarkable building. Tours can be booked nearby at the fascinating Low Parks Museum.
