Doon the Dunny

Theatre

Written by Jim Ewing and Terri Kelly Directed by Jim Ewing.  Bookends Theatre Group presents the follow up to last year's hugely successful Up a Close.  Set in 1950's Glasgow, Christmas is approaching, knife crime is rife, burglaries are up, and the cafe and the Barrowland Ballroom are the places to go.  Pasquali and Rena own the "tallys" the kids still play in the streets but why does Ina spend so much time "Doon the Dunny".  The newlyweds Billy and Helen are hoping for a hoose and trying for a wean "well she is"!    Their parents Agnes and Jock, Margaret and Tommy are playing happy families despite their "differences" until Granny Mary puts the cat amongst the pigeons at the beetle drive, and the fur flies!  Rab is so accident prone, the hospital is in danger of running out of bandages.  Mrs Weir the "windae hinger" watches over it all including the two local ladies of the night and the mysterious stranger.  Packed with "goings on" and fine "patter" from the old Glasgow characters.  Old Glesgae street songs by the "weanses" complete the picture and prove that nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

A pre theatre meal is available for this performance.
