Clanranald Trust to Build Ancient Village

Duncarron Village Jacobites

The Clanranald Trust for Scotland has embarked on a project to construct a replica of a 12th Century fortified village, set on the periphery of Carron Valley Forest close to the Carron Valley Reservoir.

Inside the fortification will be live working components such as a bakehouse, a forge and a hospital included within a range of period round and long house buildings all attended by staff in period dress.

The village, named Duncarron, will open to the public in summer 2010. The village will not only provide a unique education tool but will also be a powerful visitor attraction.

The Trust is a charity which promotes Scottish culture and heritage through education and entertainment. In addition to a comprehensive schools programme, the Trust is also involved in presenting medieval warfare displays including staging theatrical events involving music and dance and promoting Scottish craftwork.

With 90 film credits including films such as "Gladiator", "King Arthur" and the forthcoming "Robin Hood" and "Valhalla Rising", the Trust supports historical film and documentary productions, and provides combat choreography, training, actors/skilled extras, period costumes, weaponry, etc. The Trust also provides corporate entertainment from guards of honour to full medieval encampments and combat displays, period banquets and related events.
