The Clydesdale Energy Efficiency Project is calling on volunteers to help break a world record attempt over the 27th/ 28th August 2010.
As part of its Sustainable Saturday fun day, the Guinness World Record attempt will see the group try to generate electricity using 21 stationary bikes over a 24 hour period at the Coalburn One Stop Shop in South Lanarkshire.
Already 400 people have signed up, however around 1,000 volunteers are needed. People can cycle anywhere from one minute to 24 hours to be involved and all ages, shapes, sizes and levels of fitness are welcome.
The aim of the attempt is to:
• Raise awareness of sustainable issues such as energy efficiency and renewable energy
• Promote mental and physical health and well being
• Demonstrate what communities can achieve by working together.
A Sustainable Saturday family fun day celebration will take place from 9am to 5pm on the Saturday with activities such as face painting, bouncy castles and a computer console game zone.
Three MSP’s have signed up for the event including Labour’s Karen Gillon, Aileen Campbell of the SNP and Patrick Harvie, co-convener of the Green party.
