In keeping with its reputation as being one of Lanarkshire's premier family day out destinations, Chatelherault Country Park, now also holds the accolade of being, graded a 5 star visitor attraction under the prestigious VisitScotland grading scheme.
Chatelherault was built in 1732 as the hunting lodge and summer house for the Dukes of Hamilton. Designed by the famous Scottish Architect William Adam, Chatelherault now serves as the magnificent gateway to the Country Park.
Chatelherault's Great Attraction
The restored buildings house the exhibitions gallery, displays, gift shop, café and reception desk. Those interested in historic attractions can view the Duke's private Banqueting Room and apartments and the formal gardens.
Outside, children will love the impressive modern play area which is especially popular for summer days out.
Should visitors prefer to stretch their legs, surrounding the main building of Chatelherault are 10 miles of walks through the ancient woodlands.
This beautiful part of South Lanarkshire is home to a huge variety of wildlife, including roe deer, otters, badgers and a wide range of woodland birds.
Chatelherault Country Park's greatest natural asset is the Avon Gorge, an impressive woodland gorge, which is a Special Scientific Interest and part of the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve. The area also has the famous Cadzow Oaks, some of the oldest trees in the UK thought to date back some 600 years, and the ancient ruin of Cadzow Castle which dates back to the 16th century.
In addition to being one of the key attractions in central Scotland, Chatelherault serves as one of the country's most prestigious venues for weddings, functions and conferences.
