East Kilbride

ice rinkHistory

For a New Town, East Kilbride has been around a very long time - since the 12th Century, in fact. However, before 1947, East Kilbride was very different: it consisted of a small, sleepy village grouped round an old Church. Today, it's a New Town with around 70,000 people living there - making it the most successful in Scotland.

Attractions

With four large under-cover malls, East Kilbride offers the largest indoor shopping experience in Scotland - and the 5th largest in whole of the UK.

When you've shopped till you've dropped, Calderglen Country Park, the James Hamilton Loch and the Hunter House Museum are all excellent - as is the Museum of Scottish Country Life at Kittochside, part of the National Museums of Scotland.
