Motherwell
History
Once a collection of agricultural villages, Motherwell developed into the area's most important town during the industrial revolution. With the arrival of the railways, combined with plentiful local coal, Motherwell was the largest centre of steel production in Scotland for around 100 years.
Attractions
Strathclyde Country Park offers a range of land and water based activities and is the home of Scotland's Rowing Academy, with its Boathouse leisure club.
Other popular spots for enjoying the fresh air include Dalzell Park and the Baron's Haugh Nature reserve. Another big attraction is M&D's theme park, with indoor and outdoor rides and games for everybody.

And Motherwell is also home to the town's popular theatre and concert hall, with an exciting programme all year round.
