Strathaven
History
Strathaven has been a market town for over 500 years, and the Common Green has long been a focal point - the heart of town life and the site of the market itself. Strathaven has long been associated with textiles and brewing, and in the 17th Century was the site of a major Covenanter battle.
Attractions
As well as shopping opportunities with genuine charm, Strathaven has a lot to offer visitors. The town's public park, with its famous Wee Train, attracts visitors from far and wide. The John Hastie Museum is also well worth a visit. Every August the town hosts the annual Balloon Festival - offering some spectacular sights. The ruins of Strathaven Castle can still be seen, though it was once much larger than it appears today.
Strathaven is also home to Strathaven Airfield which is the only traditional all-grass airfield in Central Scotland.
