Wishaw & Shotts
History
Wishaw grew rapidly as a result of the industrial revolution, supplying coal to fire the furnaces that produced Motherwell's world famous steel. With heavy industry no longer around, the area is now the focus for major regeneration programmes. Shotts was originally an agricultural parish that also grew with the industrial boom. However, this area is also rich in history - playing host to armies from the Romans to Oliver Cromwell.
