Abington village is a great base for visiting Glasgow, exploring the Clyde Valley, Edinburgh or the Scottish Borders. The Abington Hotel is close to exciting country walks and days out at the various heritage centres and museums of historic Lanarkshire.
The hotel itself has enjoyed a rich history of guests. Situated at an important stop over point for journeys between Scotland and England, and vice versa, the hotel was the perfect base for those travelling long distance or simply a comfortable retreat for hunting parties. Interestingly, in 1839 Napoleon III, descendent of Napoleon Bonaparte, visited the hotel after a long day of grouse shooting. ‘Napoleon's chair', which Napoleon used during his stay, has been kept in the hotel ever since.
The hotel was completely rebuilt in 1896 and has also enjoyed recent refurbishment. The hotel now boasts a conservatory, refurbished bedrooms, reception, comfortable lounge bar, restaurant and facilities for conferences. The hotel remains a family run establishment and offers excellent facilities within the bedrooms. Each room is ensuite and has free broadband internet access, as well as a colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities.
The Abington Hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the Lanarkshire area. And for some exciting thrills and spills, take the family to M&Ds-Scotland's Theme Park, a must for a fun-filled family day out.
