Situated in the centre of Biggar, thirty miles outside of Edinburgh, The Elphinstone Hotel is a traditional and charming Coaching Inn, steeped in a 400-year-old history. Owners, Robert and Janette Allen, along with their son, Michael, have been at the heart of the business for over twenty five years and offer a warm and friendly welcome to visitors and locals alike. In March 2016 The Elphinstone was awarded The John Brinkins Award for Excellence in Tourism at the 2016 Lanarkshire Business Excellence Awards.
Found just 40 minutes outside Edinburgh, the hotel’s eleven comfortable rooms all have digital television, free WiFi and tea and coffee making facilities, as well as access to hairdryer and ironing facilities and can host families as well as couples and individuals, making this the perfect place to start your exploration of Scotland.
In The Elphinstone Restaurant the menu is varied with the focus very much on sourcing and utilising the best fresh, local produce and from further afield utilising Scotland’s wonderful larder. Scottish dishes such as Cullen Skink, Morag Dhu and haggis in a crisp panko breadcrumb all make for delicious starters, while mains include Haggis with a wholegrain mustard sauce, Fisherman’s Pie and Pork and Black Pudding Stack. Also on the menu are a range of dishes from around the world, catering for all tastebuds. Full of character, the lounge is in the style of a traditional old inn. Here you can sit in front of a roaring fire enjoying a glass of wine, a rusty nail or even a hot toddy.
The Elphinstone also have a function room on their first floor which is suitable for a number of uses including birthday parties, family gatherings, christenings, weddings, engagements and business meetings. They can provide simple finger buffets, fork buffets and a range of menus to suit all tastes and budgets. There is no hire charge for the room. The function suite can comfortably seat ninety (90) for a full sit down meal. The room can be laid out in such a manner that small parties from 20 or so will not find the room too large.
On the A702 less than an hours drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh & Carlisle and only 15 minutes from the M74.
