Cumbernauld to host international book festival
Scotland’s biggest book festival is coming to Lanarkshire.
The International Edinburgh Book Festival has announced that it will be holding a three-day event in Cumbernauld.
Taking place between 19 – 21 May, the event will see a number of writers, artists and theatre makers descend on the town. It is part of The Edinburgh Book Festival’s outreach strategy to hold events across the country, focusing on New Towns, which were created 70 years ago as part of the New Towns Act.
The festival, which has been titled ReimagiNation Cumbernauld, aims to highlight the social history of the area. Historian Daniel Gray will be visiting older residents to find out more about their memories of the town, celebrating the human stories behind the establishment and growth of the town.
Residents of Cumbernauld will also be given the chance to take part in an interactive performance piece, where they will be encouraged to share their ideas on how the town can be reimagined for the 21st century.
