Four new things to try in Lanarkshire in 2019

From keeping active to learning a new skill, it’s the perfect time of year to embrace change and try something new, and Lanarkshire’s the place to do just that!

To help you on your way, we’ve created a guide to some of the best and most exciting activities to try in the area, guaranteed to make 2019 a year to remember.

Take to the skies

Here’s one to tick off the bucket list! Reach for the stars and climb dizzying heights with Cloudbusters, Lanarkshire’s paragliding school.

Offering training to beginners and experienced flyers, Cloudbusters is the longest established British Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association registered school in the Greater Glasgow area.

Instructors will have you flying from the Tinto Hill area, offering breath-taking panoramic views of Lanarkshire like you’ve never seen before.

Visit a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Take a walk through history at Lanarkshire’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Antonine Wall, which stretches 63 kilometres from West Dunbartonshire to Bo’ness on the Firth of the Forth, runs through Castlecary and Croy in North Lanarkshire. Built to be the Northern frontier of the Roman Empire, the Wall now offers a glimpse into Scottish history and is perfect for those who want to explore a new walking route.

Explore award-winning attractions at New Lanark, an 18th century cotton mill, on the banks of the Falls of Clyde. Carefully restored as a living community complete with a visitor centre and hotel, New Lanark is one of Lanarkshire’s many jewels in its crown. For unforgettable views, head to the hotel’s rooftop garden.

Jump to it

Have you ever jumped across 150 trampolines, bounced to the best beats at a party or played a game of basketball whilst soaring through the air?

At 63,000 square feet, Flip Out is the world’s biggest trampoline area. With a 5-a-side football pitch, tumble tracks and an assault course, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to practice and perfect your tricks and flips.

Great days out

Whether you’re looking to kickstart the new year with a rip-roaring race around a Monaco-style racetrack, or visit the UK’s biggest onshore windfarm, VisitLanarkshire has created several itineraries, guaranteed to provide you with a great day out this year.
