Drift back to another era at Summerlee and the Time Capsule
-
Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life is located on the site of the old Summerlee ironworks. As well as an insight to Lanarkshire's industrial past, the museum shows you exactly how people have lived and worked, on the site through various decades. Take a trip on the Edwardian tram where you can take a guided tour down the mine and experience the conditions the miners used to work in, then visit the miners cottages, which are individually decorated showing the living conditions from the 1840's to the 1980's, you may recognise some of the furniture! Then take a stroll along the historic Monkland canal and see the Vulcan, a replica of the world's first iron hulled vessel. It is then a short drive (or a ten minute walk) to the Time Capsule leisure centre.View Details
