Walk out to Winter

Cold clear frosty weather can be the most beautiful setting for walks that will blow away the cobwebs and get your heart racing. There are lots of places that you can get to in no time at all from around central Scotland. Here are a few of our favourites - as easy as ABC!

Antonine Wall

It’s been around since 142AD and you can still see the remains of this fortress which was the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire. One of the six world heritage sites in Scotland and an off the beaten track destination. Click here for walking route details. 

Bothwell Castle

Head for the beautiful ruin of Bothwell Castle, managed by Historic Environment Scotland and you can access the Clyde Walkway. This route follows the river Clyde from Partick in Glasgow to New Lanark World heritage site (another one!) You can walk for as long as you like and you can't get lost following the river. Cuningar Loop

This new park in Rutherglen has transformed 15 hectares of derelict land into a city park with sculptures, bouldering and woodland trails. A legacy project of the 2014 Commonwealth games, you can follow the park through to the new pedestrian and cycle bridge to the Athletes village residential area.
